100k Points for the Sapphire Preferred?
Tl;dr: The new 100k-point sign up bonus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred is an ultra-rare opportunity for at least $1,250 in travel.
I’m no big fan of Chase’s Sapphire Preferred card, but I’m not crazy—this is a BIG deal, one of the best credit card offers we’ve seen in a while. The card’s usual 60,000-point welcome offer has nearly doubled to 100,000, an offer not seen in ages. If you’re too lazy to figure out complicated transfer redemptions, those Chase points can be redeemed for $1,250 in travel through Chase’s travel portal. If you want to do some more legwork, they can be worth even more (transfer to Hyatt are a pretty easy way to get extra value from Chase points).
Unfortunately, this time the Sapphire Reserve card hasn’t joined the CSP with an elevated offer, at least not yet, and if you pick up the CSP now, you won’t be able to upgrade to the Reserve for a year. That’s a shame, because the Reserve is a far-superior card, and those 100k points would be worth $1,500 if you had the Reserve in your arsenal.
As I said when I called the Preferred “wildly overrated,” it’s still a very solid card and worth picking up when you can get 75k points or more as a welcome offer. 100k? 🏃💨
